DIY Solar Recovery Mist aka After-Sun Skin-Soothing Spray with Essential Oils

This post is sponsored by Mountain Rose Herbs.

Being outdoors has become an integral part of my self-care routine. I’m out walking, hiking, kayaking, biking, swimming, gardening, or sunning on most days. It clears my head, keeps me feeling grounded, dispels lingering stress, and helps me stay fit. Nature spiritually and emotionally revives me. So naturally pre- and post-sun skincare has become a priority for me, in tandem.

Today I want to share with you my post-sun skincare go-to, which of course aligns with my skincare philosophy: keep it simple, affordable, effective, and made with holistic ingredients. Skincare doesn't need to be complicated (or come in fancy packaging) to be fabulous.

So today I’m sharing my “Solar Recovery Mist” aka my After-Sun Skin-Soothing Spray with Essential Oils. It’s made with aloe, fractionated coconut oil, witch hazel, and lavender/peppermint/geranium oils.

I toss this After Sun Spray in my tote whenever I know I’m going to get some sun. I never go to the beach or river without it. Plus it makes me smell great after a decent sweat -- can’t beat that!

This DIY is meant to be refrigerated most of the time -- it’s even more refreshing when it’s cold, misted directly onto hot skin.

This DIY is:

  • All-natural.

  • Soothing and cooling.

  • Made with powerful yet gentle essential oils.

  • Made with skin-nourishing coconut oil.

  • The ideal plant-powered solution to keeping your sun-tanned skin feeling healthy and smooth.

  • As easy as 1, 2, 3.

All of the ingredients for this DIY were sourced from Mountain Rose Herbs. I’ve been sourcing all of my DIY ingredients (and herbs!) from Mountain Rose since 2012 -- the quality is unmatched and their sustainability practices are next level. I’m especially impressed by their essential oils, which are not only excellent quality and sustainably produced but are very affordable. They work directly with farmers to cut out the middleman and pass those savings onto their customers. That, in my opinion, speaks clearly to their goodwill for humanity and the desire to make these products available to people. You can check out all of their essential oils here.

Solar Recovery Mist aka After-Sun Skin-Soothing Spray with Essential Oils

Makes: ~½ cup skin spray, 4 oz

Notes: 1. Be careful using this with painful sunburns — oils trap heat in burns and can increase the sensation of discomfort. 2. Because this formulation contains peppermint oil be sure to avoid your eyes when using this product as it will sting. 3. This formulation is for external use only. 4. Make sure you use a natural aloe vera gel, ideally lightly preserved like the one from Mountain Rose — natural aloe is clear, never colored blue or green.
